January 5th 2006 – Manchester United sign Nemanja Vidic
Manchester United complete the January window signing of Nemanja Vidic from Spartak Moscow for a reported transfer fee of £7million.
Manager Sir Alex states after the capture of the Serbian International:
“Good defenders win you things. This lad is really natural and athletic. You need good defenders and that is exactly what this lad is!”
January 25th 2006 – Vidic makes Manchester United debut.
Nemanja Vidic came off the bench, late in the 2nd half, during Manchester United’s Carling Cup Semi final vs Blackburn, in which they won 2-1 thanks to goals from Van Nistelroory and Saha.
January 29th 2006 – Vidic completes 90 minutes in FA Cup debut.
Nemanja Vidic started and played the full 90 minutes of his debut in the FA Cup 4th round vs Wolves in which United won 3-0.
February 1st 2006 – Vidic makes Premier League debut
Nemanja Vidic suffered his 1st loss with the club in his Premier league debut as Manchester United lost 4-3 to Blackburn Rovers, thanks largely to a hat-trick from David Bentley. Vidic also received his 1st Premier League yellow card in the aforementioned game.
February 26th 2006 – Vidic and Manchester United win Carling Cup
Nemanja Vidic comes on as a late substitute in the Carling Cup final, as Manchester United beat Wigan 4-0 thanks to a man of the match performance from Wayne Rooney. This is Vidic’s 1st trophy with Man United.
March 26th 2006 – Manchester United 3-0 Birmingham
Nemanja Vidic plays 90 minutes and keeps his 1st clean sheet at Old Trafford in the Premier League as Manchester United beat Birmingham 3-0.
April 29th 2006 – Chelsea 3-0 Manchester United
Nemanja Vidic starts as Manchester United are beaten 3-0 in the league by Chelsea.
September 26th 2006 – Vidic makes Champions League debut for Manchester United
Nemanja Vidic started and played the full 90 minutes of his debut away to Benfica as Manchester United win 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal from Louis Saha.
October 14th 2006 – 1st Premier League goal for Nemanja Vidic
Nemanja Vidic scores an equaliser at the JJB stadium vs Wigan. United eventually go on to win the game 3-1. Vidic’s header was from a Ryan Giggs corner in the 62nd minute, and it was his 1st goal for the club.
November 4th 2006 – Vidic nets his 2nd goal for Manchester United
Manchester United beat Portsmouth 3-0, with Vidic scoring his 2nd goal in the Premier League.
December 6th 2006 – Champions League goal for Nemanja Vidic
Nemanja Vidic starts vs Benfica in the Champions league and he scores to help United overcome the Portuguese outfit 3-1 at Old Trafford.
March 31st 2007 – Collarbone injury for Nemanja Vidic
Nemanja Vidic breaks his collarbone during a 4-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the league. Sir Alex said after the game:
“We think it’s a four or five week job. We’ll do our best to get him back as soon as we can. It’s a shoulder injury. We don’t know the full extent now, we’ll maybe know more tomorrow morning.”
May 6th 2007 – Chelsea are held at Arsenal as Manchester United win the Premier League
Nemanja Vidic wins his 1st Premier League title with Man United as Chelsea drop 2 points against Arsenal in the league. Sir Alex states after the game:
“The Premier League is such a competitive league and the focus and the pressure on the big clubs makes it a focus for us. I used to have an obsession of winning in Europe but the Premiership has become a priority.”
August 5th 2007 – Vidic wins FA Community shield with Man United
Nemanja Vidic starts in the season curtain raiser against Chelsea as United win 3-0 on penalties, to give Vidic his 1st Community shield win with the club.
September 15th 2007 – Vidic scores his 1st goal of the 07/08 Premier League season
Nemanja Vidic scores a late winner in the 83rd minute, as Manchester United beat Everton 1-0. The arrived at the near post to meet Nani’s corner and head it into the net. Sir Alex says after the game:
“Vidic is a marvelous defender but he can get a goal as well. It’s a bit of a concern that we are not scoring as many goals as we want, but until we get everyone back we will play like this.”
November 8th 2007 – Nemanja Vidic signs new Manchester United contract extension
After a shaky start to his Manchester United career, Vidic soon found his feet and was duly rewarded for his performances with a contract extension to keep him at the club till 2012.
Sir Alex said:
“Nemanja has made a terrific impact at the club and has forged a partnership with Rio Ferdinand that was a major part in us winning the title last year. He is an extremely popular member of the squad, both with staff and fans alike. It’s great news that he wants to be part of this exciting side for years to come.”
Vidic on his contract extension:
“Playing in this team is a great privilege. The fans and everyone at the club have been very special to me. I hope I can do my bit to bring the club even more trophies in the years ahead.”
February 16th 2008 – Manchester United 4-0 Arsenal
Nemanja Vidic plays 90 minutes as Manchester United thrash Arsenal to progress to the FA Cup quarter finals, thanks to a brace from Darren Fletcher.
May 11th 2008 – Wigan 0-2 Manchester United
Manchester United and Nemanja Vidic clinch their 2nd consecutive Premier League title with a 2-0 away win against Wigan.
May 21st 2008 – Champions League joy for Nemanja Vidic
Manchester United beat Chelsea on penalties in the Champions league final 2008 to give Vidic his first Champions league winners medal with the club.
August 10th 2008 – Vidic wins 2nd FA Community shield
Manchester United beat FA Cup winners Portsmouth in the FA Community shield. Vidic plays the whole game as United win 3-1 on penalties.
September 13th 2008 – Vidic sees Red
Nemanja Vidic is sent off vs Liverpool in the Premier League as United end up losing 2-1. That Red card is Vidic’s first in his United career.
November 1st 2008 - Man United 4-3 Hull
Nemanja Vidic scores the 4th Manchester United goal in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Hull in the Premier League. The Serb reaching for the ball low down, and guiding it past the Hull goalkeeper.
January 11th 2009 – Vidic scores against Chelsea in the league.
Nemanja Vidic scored for United in a comfortable 3-0 Victory over the blues in the Premier League.
March 14th 2009 – Nemanja Vidic has a nightmare game
Nemanja Vidic gets his 2nd red card of the season against Liverpool once again. The Serb had suffered a terrible afternoon at the hands of Fernando Torres, and made a mistake which allowed Torres to steal in and score the equaliser.
Vidic’s poor day was capped off after he was sent off for fouling Steven Gerrard outside the area. Fabio Aurelio scored the resulting free kick to complete a 4-1 win for Liverpool against United, at Old Trafford.
May 27th 2009 – Barcelona overcome United 2-0 in Champions League final.
Nemanja Vidic played the full game, but couldn’t keep out Lionel Messi and Barcelona as United suffered a 2-0 loss in the Champions League final.
October 25th 2009 – 3rd consecutive red card against Liverpool for Nemanja Vidic.
Nemanja Vidic is sent off for the 3rd game running against Liverpool, as United suffer a 2-0 loss in the Premier League.
December 15th 2009 - Vidic scores his 1st goal of the new season
Nemanja Vidic got up a running for a season in trademark fashion as he nodded in a Darren Gibson corner, to help Manchester United on their way to completing a routine 3-0 victory over Wolves in the league.
December 30th 2009 – Vidic suffers calf injury
Nemanja Vidic is taken off after the hour mark during Manchester United’s 5-0 win over Wigan. The Serb suffered a calf injury and had to be replaced by Anderson.
February 23rd 2010 – Vidic returns from Injury
Nemanja Vidic returns from the calf injury which kept him out for 2 months, as United beat West ham 3-0 in the league.
February 28th 2010 – Aston Villa 1-2 Manchester United
Nemanja Vidic and Manchester United win the Carling Cup after a tight game against Villa in the final, which needed a Wayne Rooney winner off the bench to grab the winner.
Luckily Nemanja escapes a red card after taking down Gabriel Agblonglahor in the box for what was a penalty and, what most certainly looked like, a dismissal.
June 13th 2010 - Vidic heads off to the World cup with his country
After a long season which saw Vidic win only the Carling Cup with United, the defender heads off to the World cup with Serbia as they lose to Ghana in their opening game.
August 8th 2010 – Chelsea 1-3 Manchester United
Manchester United beat Chelsea 3-1 in the FA Community shield as Vidic plays 90 minutes, and wins his 3rd FA Community shield with United.
August 20th 2010 – Vidic signs contract extension
After months and months of rumours about Vidic being discontent at Old Trafford and wanting a move away from Manchester, the Serb quashed the speculation and put pen to paper on a 4-year Contract extenstion with United.
Sir Alex speaking about Vidic’s new contract:
“We are delighted Nemanja has committed his future to the club, this kills all the silly speculation over the past few months. Nemanja has developed into one of the best centre-halves in Europe and we are pleased he will be here for many years to come.”
Vidic had this to say:
“I am very happy to sign this contract, I came to this club when I was young and have developed enormously with the help of the manager, coaching staff and my team-mates. During my time here we have had a lot of success and I look forward to continuing that success in the coming seasons.”
September 11th 2010 – Everton 3-3 Manchester United
Nemanja Vidic scores his 1st goal of the new season, as Manchester United are held to a 3-3 draw at Goodison Park in the Premier league.
September 17th 2010 – Nemanja Vidic given Captains armband
Nemanja Vidic is made the club captain on a permanent basis by Sir Alex.
“He started the campaign as captain and it will stay that way, what we wanted was someone who was consistently available for us,” added Ferguson. Everyone recognises Nemanja Vidic would always be there. He has been fit all season and you don’t leave him out of the team unless you are going to rest him.”
November 13th 2010 – Vidic stars in United comeback vs Aston Villa
Nemanja Vidic scored a late equaliser for Man United as they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Aston Villa in the Premier League.
March 1st 2011 – Vidic is sent off against Chelsea
Nemanja Vidic is red carded for the 4th time in his United career for a foul on Ramires, as Chelsea beat Man United 2-1 in the Premier League.
May 8th 2011- Vidic finds the net against Chelsea
Nemanja Vidic scores against Chelsea in the league, as Manchester United edge closer to winning back the Premier league title. United win the game 2-0 with Hernandez scoring the other goal.
May 14th 2011- Vidic wins 4th Premier League title with Manchester United
Manchester United draw 1-1 with Blackburn and do just enough to seal a record 19th league title, as Vidic plays the full 90 minutes. This is alse Vidic’s 1st trophy as captain of Manchester United.
May 28th 2011 – Barcelona 3-1 Manchester United
Nemanja Vidic captains Manchester United on a disappointed night at Wembley, as the Reds lose 3-1 in the Champions league final.
August 7th 2011 – Vidic wins 4th FA Community shield with Manchester United
Nemanja Vidic and Manchester United win the community shield in a 3-2 victory over noisy neighbours Manchester City. Vidic is taken off at half time with United 2-0 down, but United fight back to overcome City thanks to a brace from Nani.
August 14th 2011 – Calf injury gets the better of Nemanja Vidic.
Vidic is taken off with a calf injury against West Brom in the United’s 1st game of the 2011-12 Premier league season.
October 18th 2011- Sent Off Upon Return to First Team Action
